History
Villainous Records was one of many different established names thought of in the beginning. Originally back in 2013, John Anthony produced his own music on his laptop using cheap recording software and a iRig microphone.[3] He founded the name Flo Money Records and released his mixtapes through the label.[4] The name would be scrapped initially a few years into his career, along with his earlier mixtapes. When he returned back to hip hop in 2016, he worked around with a couple other names and came up with RYG Records as the new distribution of his music.[5] The name only held through two mixtapes up until 2019. On March 8, 2019, Villainous Records became the new name of John Anthony's record label and debuted with the re-release of the Four Forty Four EP. [6] The name "Villainous" was inspired when John Anthony was reading a comic book and stumbled across the word.[7] The word came to life as he felt it perfectly fit along with what he believes people label him as, a villain.
Villainous Records has signed three music talents to its roster to accompany John Anthony. Jay Jugg who signed in February 2025, Micah Harnish who signed in April 2025 and became the first non-hop hop based artist to sign with the company and record producer Robin Tabacca, who signed in 2023. They join music engineer Justin "J. Hov" Hover and Head A&R Director Alex Murphy, who both signed in 2023, are also currently with Villainous Records.[8] Since 2020, Villainous Records was partnered with independent management company Chaos Music Group, along with their founder and CEO Edward Johnson.[9] They supported as the grounding aspects in distributions, management, marketing and promotion. Currently, both Villainous Records and CMG did not re-sign a new deal after their original three-year contract. On December 10, 2023, both parties parted ways.
In early 2025, Villainous Records has signed three new artists, Jay Jugg, Frizz and Micah Harnish. A few months after signing with Villainous Records, Frizz opted out of his contract and no longer was a member of the label. On December 6, longtime signee J Mont's contract with Villainous Records expired and was not re-signed.
