Geo-Mod

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Geo-Mod technology, which stands for Geometry Modification Technology, is a video game engine that allows players to alter and destroy the environment around them (e.g. blowing a tunnel through walls instead of using a door). First introduced in 2001, the game engine was created by Volition, Inc. and has been used in the games Red Faction[1] and Red Faction II.

The 2009 game Red Faction: Guerrilla uses a new Geo-Mod engine. It was originally called RED,[2] which stood for Realtime Environment Destruction and has since been renamed to Geo-Mod 2.0. This new engine lets players dynamically destroy structures, such as buildings, fortifications, etc., as opposed to the terrain in the first Geo-Mod engine.

The 2011 game Red Faction: Armageddon uses an upgraded version of the Geo-Mod 2.0 engine known as Geo-Mod 2.5.

Volition considered using Geo-mod in Saints Row: The Third, but decided not to do it because it would be "Game-breaking" because of all the missions that take place in interiors.
