"Hurry" is a song by American singer Teyana Taylor featuring Kanye West, from her second studio album, K.T.S.E. (2018).

Background[edit]

West's appearance on it marks the only time that an artist is featured on the album, appropriately so, since he's the executive producer.[1] In West's verse, he plays the role of the Zaddy figure within her life.[2]

Composition[edit]

For the entirety of the track, a sample from Sly and the Family Stone's 1974 single "Can't Strain My Brain" is used to heavily compose it.[3]

Critical reception[edit]

Pitchfork described the song's 'minimalist guitar noodling often found in the blues' as making: 'the flirty "Hurry" even more playful'.[4] Rolling Stone praised 'the skipping rhythm' of Taylor's singing in "Hurry".[5]

Live performances[edit]

When performing live in San Francisco on September 6, 2018, Taylor brought out West for a surprise performance of the track. After they'd performed together, West took on the role of a fan and recorded the remainder of her performance on his phone.[6]

Controversy[edit]

Shortly after the release of the featuring album, speculation had it that Kim Kardashian and Ray J's tape was sampled within the song.[7] However, it was later confirmed by a representative for GOOD Music that there's no sample of the tape used.[8]
