Kilowatt is an unincorporated locality and former settlement in Kern County, California.[1] It is located on the Union Pacific Railroad (formerly Southern Pacific Railroad) 1 mile (1.6 km) east of Buttonwillow,[2] at an elevation of 279 feet (85 m).[1]
It was formerly the site of the 1920s-era Midway Steam Plant[3] of the San Joaquin Light and Power Corporation. The Midway Steam Plant was demolished in 1966.[4] The site is now occupied by the Midway Substation, linked to electrical transmission lines Path 15 and Path 26.
