Transformers One[lower-alpha 1] is an upcoming animated science fiction film directed by Josh Cooley and based on the Transformers toyline by Hasbro. Written by Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari, the film will be produced by Hasbro, eOne, and Paramount Animation, and distributed by Paramount Pictures.
Plot[edit]
Set in the planet Cybertron, the film will center on the relationship between Optimus Prime and Megatron.[2]

Development[edit]
In May 2015, it was reported that Michael Bay and Paramount Pictures have hired Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari as part of their "writers room", made in hopes of creating a "Transformers Cinematic Universe" from their Transformers film series.[3] It was also reported that an origin film tentatively titled Transformers One was being developed by Paramount, as well as an animated Transformers film.[3] In September 2015, it was reported that Barrer and Ferrari will write the script for Transformers One, which will ultimately serve as the franchise's animated film.[4]
In April 2020, it was reported that Josh Cooley will direct the film, while Barrer and Ferrari are still set to write the script.[2] The fim, which will focus on Optimus Prime and Megatron's relationship, will be reportedly "apart and separate" from the live-action films.[2] Longtime Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Bumblebee producer Mark Vahradian will sevre as producers for the film.[2] Paramount is fast-tracking development on the film due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as the studio determined that "making a big-scale animated feature is easier than a live-action tentpole" due to the social distancing caused by the pandemic.[2] Cooley is currently overeeing development on a new draft for the film.[2]
