The Wurgesa massacre was a mass extrajudicial killing that took place in Wurgessa in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia during the Tigray War, on 5 August 2021.[1] Wurgessa is a town in the North Wollo zone of Amhara Region.

Massacre[edit]

on 5 August 2021, fano (militia) killed 28 civilians in Wurgessa (North Wollo) while traveling on the road to Addis Ababa.[1][2]

Perpetrators[edit]

Both Tigray and Amhara media reported the perpetrators of this massacre as being fano (militia).[citation needed]

Victims[edit]

The Tigray: Atlas of the humanitarian situation mentions 28 victims of this massacre.[1]
