"Donda" is a song by American rapper Kanye West. It was first previewed via Twitter on July 12, 2020, the birthday of his deceased mother Donda West.
Background[edit]
Kanye West's mother, Donda West, passed away in 2007 due to heart disease accelerated by plastic surgery.[1] The former previewed the song "Donda" as a tribute to what would have been his mother's 71st birthday. The previewed music video included a clip of the two rapping together to the song "Hey Mama" (2005), another song written for his mother.[2][3]
Composition and lyrics[edit]
The production of "Donda" is built on gospel vocals.[1] "Donda" begins with Donda West reciting the lyrics of American rapper KRS-One's song "Sound of da Police" (1993).[3] West's lyrics focus more on his 2020 presidential campaign rather than his mother.[4]
