This is a timeline of the War in Donbass, from 1 to 31 May 2017. The timeline follows an ongoing conflict between Ukraine and anti-government pro-Russian separatists supported by Russian troops[1] in the Donbass region in eastern Ukraine.

1 May[edit]
According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 54 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 14 occasions in the outskirts of Donetsk city, on 28 occasions in the region of Mariupol, and on 12 occasions in Luhansk region[2][3]).[4][5] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence on issues related to ATO reported at noon that one Ukrainian serviceman was killed and seven others were wounded and injured in the Donbass region on the last day of April.[2][3] Pro-Russian officials at Donetsk city reported 50 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in 18 locations using small arms, grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, antiaircraft guns, armoured personnel carriers and armoured fighting vehicles. The Ukrainian military engaged pro-Russian positions at Zaitseve, Horlivka, Ozeryanivka, Dolomitne, Mikhaylivka, Sakhanka, Oktyabr, Leninske, Zaichenko, Kulikove, Kominternove, Yasinuvata, Yakovliivka, Kruta Balka, Spartak, Zhabicheve, Petrovsky district and Donetsk airport.[6][7] Authorities from the self-styled Luhansk People's Republic recorded three Ukrainian attacks inside the republic's territory, all of them in the area of Kalynove, which became the target of small arms, automatic grenade launchers, 73 mm antitank recoilles rifles and 82 mm mortars.
According to the information provided by the ATO press-centre in the evening, as of 6:00 pm pro-Russian troops had opened fire on Ukrainian troops on 25 occasions, five Ukrainian servicemen were wounded. In the surroundings of Donetsk city and Horlivka, pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles shelled Ukrainian positions near Verkhnyotoretske supported by heavy machine guns and rocket launchers. Luhanske became the target of small arms, grenade launchers and antitank guided missiles. Rebel forces fired heavy machine guns and grenade launchers at Novhorodske, Avdiivka, Zaitseve and Butivka mining complex. Marinka and Krasnohorivka came under 82 mm mortar fire. Krasnohorivka was also fired at by heavy machine guns and rocket launchers. In the region of Mariupol, Ukrainian forces at Hnutove, Shyrokyne, Vodiane and Talakivka received heavy machine gun and rocket propelled grenade fire. Sniper fire was reported at Pavlopil. In the northern section of the demarcation line, rebel troops fired heavy machine guns and grenade launchers at Ukrainian redoubts near Novozvanivka.[8][9]
One civilian was killed and another injured by explosion of a booby trap at Mykhailivka, Luhansk region.[10]

The ATO HQ reported in the morning that pro-Russian forces had opened fire on 55 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 17 occasions in the outskirts of Donetsk city, on 32 occasions in the region of Mariupol, and on 6 occasions in Luhansk region[11]).[12][13] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence on issues related to ATO reported at noon that four Ukrainian servicemen were wounded in the Donbass region on the first day of May.[11] On 4 May it was reported that three Ukrainian servicemen were also killed on the first day of May.[14][15] Pro-Russian officials at Donetsk city reported 47 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in 16 locations using small arms, grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, antiaircraft guns, armoured personnel carriers, armoured fighting vehicles, 122 mm and 152 mm artillery. The Ukrainian army opened fire on pro-Russian redoubts at Zaitseve, Horlivka, Verkhnyotoretske, Zheleznaya Balka, Sakhanka, Oktyabr, Leninske, Zaichenko, Kominternove, Yasinuvata, Yakovliivka, Kruta Balka, Vasiliivka, Spartak, Petrovsky district and Donetsk airport.[16] In their daily release to the press, authorities from the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic said that Ukrainian troops broke the ceasefire on six occasions inside the republic boundaries. The Ukrainian military opened fire on pro-Russian positions at Pervomaisk, Kalynove, Kalinivka and Frunze with small arms, automatic grenade launchers and 82 mm mortars.[17]
The press-centre of the ATO HQ reported in the evening that as of 6:00 pm pro-Russian troops had opened fire on Ukrainian troops on 28 occasions, four Ukrainian soldiers were wounded. In the outskirts of Donetsk city and Horlivka, The rebels pounded Zaitseve and Luhanske with 82 mm and 120 mm mortar fire respectively. Avdiivka became the target of sniper fire and antitank rockets, while Krasnohorivka was fired at by heavy machine guns and grenade launchers. Pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles also shelled Zaitseve. In the region of Mariupol, Rocket propelled grenades landed in Pavlopil. Ukrainian positions at Shyrokyne, Vodiane and Hnutove were struck by heavy machine gun fire and rocket propelled grenades. Intense sniper fire was also reported at Hnutove, which also received Zu-23-2 antiaircraft fire. Armoured fighting vehicles opened fire on Ukrainian forces near Vodiane. In the northern section of the demarcation line, the separatists engaged Ukrainian positions at Krymske and Novozvanivka with heavy machine guns, rocket launchers, 82 mm and 120 mm mortars. Katerinivka and Troitske came under 82 mm mortar fire. Katerinivka also became the target of rocket launchers. Rebel forces also fired heavy machine guns and grenade launchers at Novozvanivka. Ukrainian troops returned fire with automatic grenade launchers.[18][19] Later in the evening, one Ukrainian soldier was killed in action in Avdiivka, when Ukrainian positions came under heavy machine gun and mortar fire.[20]

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 63 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 15 occasions in the outskirts of Donetsk city, on 30 occasions in the region of Mariupol, and on 18 occasions in Luhansk region[21]).[19][22][23] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence on issues related to ATO reported at noon that one Ukrainian serviceman was killed and seven others were wounded in the Donbass region on 2 May.[21] Pro-Russian officials at Donetsk city reported 44 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire using small arms, grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, antiaircraft guns, armoured personnel carriers, armoured fighting vehicles, tanks and 122 mm self-propelled artillery. Ukrainian forces attacked pro-Russian positions at Zaitseve, Sakhanka, Kominternove, Leninske, Dokuchaievsk, Yasinuvata, Mineralne, Yakovliivka, Kruta Balka, Spartak, Kirov district, Petrovsky district and Donetsk airport. One civilian resident was killed.[24] According to local officials, the Ukrainian military broke the truce on three occasions within the republic borders. Kalinivka, Khoroshche and Kalynove became the target of small arms, automatic grenade launchers, 73 mm antitank recoilless rifles, 120 mm mortars, BMP-1 and BMP-2 armoured vehicles.[25]
According to the information provided by the ATO press-centre in the evening, as of 6:00 pm pro-Russian troops had opened fire on Ukrainian troops on 19 occasions, one Ukrainian serviceman was wounded. Pro-Russian tanks engaged Ukrainian redoubts at Avdiivka, in the western outskirts of Donetsk city. In addition, the Ukrainian stronghold was hit by heavy machine gun fire, rocket propelled grenades and antitank guided missiles. Sniper fire was reported at nearby Pisky, while Troitske was fired at by rocket launchers and 82 mm mortars. In the region of Mariupol, 120 mm mortar volleys landed in Hnutove, while Pavlopil came under small arms, heavy machine gun and 82 mm mortar fire. Armoured fighting vehicles attacked Ukrainian marines' positions at Shyrokyne, supported by "Grad-P" single rocket launchers. Rebel forces opened fire on Vodiane with heavy machine guns and grenade launchers. Sniper fire harassed Ukrainian troops in Novotroitske and Vodiane. In the northern sector of the demarcation line, rocket propelled grenades landed in Novooleksandrivka, Krymske and Troitske.[26]

The ATO HQ reported in the morning that pro-Russian forces had opened fire on 52 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 13 occasions in the outskirts of Donetsk city, on 24 occasions in the region of Mariupol, and on 15 occasions in Luhansk region[15]).[27][28][29] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence on issues related to ATO reported at noon that nine Ukrainian servicemen were wounded in the Donbass region on 3 May.[15] During his daily briefing to the press, deputy minister of defence of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic, Eduard Basurin, reported that Ukrainian troops broke the ceasefire on 56 occasions over the past 24 hours. According to the statement, the Ukrainian military used small arms, grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured fighting vehicles, tanks, 122 mm self-propelled artillery, 152 mm self-propelled artillery and BM-21 "Grad" multiple rocket launchers to pound pro-Russian positions at Zaitseve, Shyroka Balka, Holmivsky, Verkhnyotoretske, Kruta Balka, Kominternove, Zaichenko, Oktyabr, Leninske, Sakhanka, Yasinuvata, Yakovliivka, Zhabicheve, Spartak, Dokuchaievsk, Petrovsky district, Kirov district and Donetsk airport.[30] Officials from the self-styled Luhansk People's Republic reported eight Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire within the republic borders. The Ukrainian military targeted pro-Russian positions at Donetskyi, Frunze, Kalynove, Lohvynove and Sokolniki with small arms, automatic grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, Zu-23-2 antiaircraft guns and armoured fighting vehicles.[31]
The press-centre of the ATO HQ reported in the evening that as of 6:00 pm pro-Russian troops had opened fire on Ukrainian troops on 24 occasions, three Ukrainian soldiers were wounded. In the surroundings of Donetsk city and Horlivka, Luhanske was shelled with antitank rockets, 82 mm and 120 mm mortars. Zaitseve came likewise under 82 mm mortar fire, while Avdiivka, Marinka and Butivka coal mine became the target of heavy machine guns and grenade launchers. Antitank rockets landed around Ukrainian positions at Novhorodske. Small arms fire was reported at Krasnohorivka. In the region of Mariupol, 82 mm mortar barrages hit Hnutove, while small arms fire harassed Ukrainian troops at Pavlopil, Novoselivka, Vodiane and Bohdanivka. In the northern section of the demarcation line, heavy shelling was reported at Popasna, which was fired at by 120 mm mortars and 122 mm self-propelled artillery. Rebel forces attacked Ukrainian strong points at Krymske, Valuiske and Novozvanivka with small arms, heavy machine guns and antitank guided missiles.[32]

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 58 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 16 occasions in the outskirts of Donetsk city, on 25 occasions in the region of Mariupol, and on 17 occasions in Luhansk region[33]).[34][35][36] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence on issues related to ATO reported at noon that ten Ukrainian servicemen were wounded in the Donbass region on 4 May; two female civilians were injured in Avdiivka.[33] Pro-Russian officials at Donetsk city reported 44 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire using small arms, grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured personnel carriers, armoured fighting vehicles and tanks. Ukrainian forces attacked pro-Russian positions in 15 locations.[37] There were 339 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire on the past week according to the same sources. The Ukrainian military opened fire at pro-Russian positions on 1,788 occasions using mortars, tanks and artillery.[38] Authorities from the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic recorded three Ukrainian violations of the truce within the borders of the republic. The Ukrainian army engaged pro-Russian redoubts at Kalynove and Frunze, using small arms, automatic grenade launchers, 73 mm antitank recoilless rifles, Zu-23-2 antiaircraft guns and armoured fighting vehicles.[39]

In the outskirts of Donetsk city and Horlivka, pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles opened fire on Ukrainian positions around Krasnohorivka, supported by heavy machine gun fire and rocket propelled grenades. Ukrainian forces at Avdiivka, Kamyanka, troitske and Zaitseve were likewise attacked with heavy machine guns and grenade launchers. In the region of Mariupol, the Ukrainian stronghold of Pavlopil became the target of heavy machine guns, rocket launchers and 120 mm mortars. Heavy machine gun fire was reported at Novohryhorivka and small arms fire at Hnutove and Lebedinske. In the northern section of the demarcation line, rebel forces opened fire with multiple weapons on Ukrainian strong points at Krymske, Novozvanovka, Troitske, Novoaleksandrivka and Donets.[40]

The ATO HQ reported in the morning that pro-Russian forces had opened fire on 63 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 15 occasions in the outskirts of Donetsk city, on 34 occasions in the region of Mariupol, and on 14 occasions in Luhansk region[41]).[42][43][44] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence on issues related to ATO reported at noon that five Ukrainian servicemen were wounded in the Donbass region on 5 May.[41] One Ukrainian serviceman died of wounds in a hospital.[45] Pro-Russian officials at Donetsk city reported 54 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in 16 locations using small arms, grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured personnel carriers, armoured fighting vehicles and tanks. The Ukrainian army opened fire on pro-Russian positions at Zaitseve, Horlivka, Mikhaylivka, Ozeryanivka, Verkhnyotoretske, Krasny Partizan, Kominternove, Sosnovske, Oktyabr, Leninske, Sakhanka, Yasinuvata, Spartak, Kirov district, Petrovsky district and Donetsk airport.[46][47] Officials from the self-styled Luhansk People's Republic reported seven Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire within the republic boundaries. The Ukrainian military engaged pro-Russian positions at Zholobok, Kalinivka, Krasny Yar, Frunze, and Veselehorivka using small arms, rocket launchers, automatic grenade launchers, 73 mm antitank recoilless rifles, Zu-23-2 antiaircraft guns and armoured fighting vehicles.[48]

Hostile snipers harassed Ukrainian troops at Pavlopil. In the northern section of the demarcation line, 120 mm mortar barrages landed in Krymske and Novozvanivka, which also became the target of automatic grenade launchers. Later in the evening, the Ukrainian garrison at Krymske was engaged by pro-Russian forces with antitank guided missiles and armoured fighting vehicles. The rebels also fired antitank rockets at Troitske and Novooleksandrivka, while small arms fire raked Ukrainian positions at Stanytsia Luhanska.[49][50]

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 45 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 17 occasions in the outskirts of Donetsk city, on 17 occasions in the region of Mariupol, and on 11 occasions in Luhansk region[51]).[50][52][53] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence on issues related to ATO reported at noon that five Ukrainian servicemen were wounded in the Donbass region on 6 May; one civilian was injured in Zaitseve.[51][54] Pro-Russian officials at Donetsk city reported 35 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in 14 locations using small arms, grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured personnel carriers, armoured fighting vehicles, tanks and artillery. The Ukrainian military engaged pro-Russian positions at Zaitseve, Krasny Partizan, Ozeryanivka, Myhailivka, Verkhnyotoretske, Horlivka, Kominternove, Oktyabr, Sosnovske, Leninske, Sakhanka, Dokuchaievsk, Yasinuvata, Spartak, Kirov district, Petrovsky district and Donetsk airport.[55][56] According to local officials, the Ukrainian military broke the truce on three occasions within the republic borders. Luhanske and Zaitseve came under heavy machine gun and rocket propelled grenade fire, while armoured fighting vehicles, supported by 82 mm and 120 mm mortars, opened fire on Opytne and Verkhnyotoretske, where heavy machine gun fire was also reported. Ukrainian forces at Avdiivka were fired at by heavy machine guns and grenade launchers, by heavy machine guns and 82 mm mortars at Krasnohorivka and by Zu-23-2 antiaircraft guns at Nevelske. In the region of Mariupol, pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles attacked Vodiane, which was also hit by heavy machine gun fire, rocket propelled grenades and antitank guided missiles. Pro-Russian armoured personnel carriers engaged Ukrainian redoubts at Pavlopil, while small arms fire harassed Ukrainian troops at Hnutove, Novoselivka and Lebedinske. Armoured fighting vehicles shelled Ukrainian marines' positions at Shyrokyne. In the northern section of the demarcation line, rebel troops used heavy machine guns, rocket launchers and 120 mm mortars to attack Novozvanivka and Krymske.[58]

The ATO HQ reported in the morning that pro-Russian forces had opened fire on 65 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 21 occasions in the outskirts of Donetsk city, on 24 occasions in the region of Mariupol, and on 20 occasions in Luhansk region[59]).[60][61] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence on issues related to ATO reported at noon no casualties in the Donbass region on Sunday, 7 May.[59] Pro-Russian sources in Donetsk city reported 43 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire. The Ukrainian military used small arms, grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured personnel carriers, armoured fighting vehicles and tanks to pound pro-Russian positions at Horlivka, Zaitseve, Verkhnyotoretske, Kominternove, Sosnovske, Leninske, Sakhanka, Oktyabr, Yasinuvata, Yakovliivka, Vasiliivka, Vesele, Zhabicheve, Spartak, Yasne, Dokuchaievsk, Kirov district, Petrovsky district and Donetsk airport.[62][63] Authorities from the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic said that Ukrainianforces broke the ceasefire on 11 occasions within the republic borders. The Ukrainian army used automatic grenade launchers, 73 mm antitank recoilless rifles, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars and armoured fighting vehicles to shell pro-Russian positions at Pervomaisk, Frunze, Kalynove and Sokolniki.[64] Sources from the Donetsk People's Republic claimed that prime minister Alexander Zakharchenko was the target of an assassination attempt with explosive devices on his way to a Victory Day commemoration at Savur -Mohyla.[65]

Heay shelling was reported in the northern sector of the demarcation line, where Novozvanivka was struck by 122 mm artillery fire, Troitske by 82 mm mortar barrages and Krymske by automatic-launched grenades and 120 mm mortar volleys. The rebels attacked Ukrainian forces at Zhovte with heavy machine guns and rocket launchers.[66]

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 50 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 18 occasions in the outskirts of Donetsk city, on 21 occasions in the region of Mariupol, and on 11 occasions in Luhansk region[67]).[68][69][70] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence on issues related to ATO, Oleksandr Motuzyanyk, reported at noon that one Ukrainian serviceman was killed and nine others were wounded in the Donbass region on 8 May.[67] The fatality was caused by explosion of unidentified explosive device near Slavne, five servicemen were wounded in Pavlopil, two in Avdiivka, Motuzyanuk specified.[67] Pro-Russian officials at Donetsk city reported 50 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire using small arms, grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, guided antitank missiles, armoured personnel carriers, armoured fighting vehicles, tanks and 122 mm artillery. The Ukrainian military opened fire on 13 rebel-held locations. The Ukrainian army targeted Kominternove, Sosnovske, Leninske, Sakhanka, Zaitseve, Kruta Balka, Yasinuvata, Zhabicheve, Spartak, Dokuchaievsk, Kirov district, Petrovsky district and Donetsk airport.[71][72] Officials from the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic reported that Ukrainian forces broke the ceasefire five times inside the territory of the republic. The Ukrainian military engaged pro-Russian positions at Frunze and Kalynove with small arms, automatic grenade launchers, 73 mm antitank recoilless rifles, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars and armoured fighting vehicles.[73]

In the area around Donetsk city and Horlivka, the separatists used multiple weapons to attack Ukrainian positions at Avdiivka, Verkhnetoretske, Kamyanka, Luhanske and Zaitseve. In the northern sector of the demarcation line, rebel troops fired heavy machine guns and 82 mm mortars at Ukrainian redoubts near Novozvanivka, while Valuiske and Krymske were shelled with automatic grenade launchers. According to the information provided by the ATO press-centre in the evening, as of 6:00 pm separatists troops had opened fire on Ukrainian troops on 16 occasions, no casualties were reported. Pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles engaged Ukrainian redoubts at Talakivka, in the region of Mariupol. shyrokyne and Pavlopil were shelled with 82 mm mortars, while Ukrainian forces at Hnutove were harassed with heavy machine gun fire. In the areas around Donetsk city and Horlivka, the surroundings of Luhanske were attacked with light weapons, 82 mm mortars and armoured fighting vehicles. Avdiivka was fired at by small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm and 120 mm mortars, while small arms fire was reported at Troitske. Kamyanka came under small arms and 82 mm mortar fire. In the northern sector of the demarcation line, rebel forces opened fire on Krymske with heavy machine guns and different types of grenade launchers. Small arms fire was reported at Malynove and Donetz and sniper fire at Novotoshkivke.[255][256]

The ATO HQ reported in the morning that pro-Russian forces had opened fire on 50 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 14 occasions in the outskirts of Donetsk city, on 18 occasions in the region of Mariupol, and on 18 occasions in Luhansk region[257]).[256][258][259] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence on issues related to ATO reported at noon that three Ukrainian servicemen were wounded in the Donbass region on 29 May.[257] In Luhansk Oblast, three civilians were injured when they run over a daisy-chain explosive device.[260][261] During his daily briefing to the press, deputy minister of defence of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic, Eduard Basurin, reported that Ukrainian troops broke the ceasefire on 55 occasions in 23 different locations over the past 24 hours. According to the statement, the Ukrainian military used small arms, grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured fighting vehicles, 122 mm and 152 mm self-propelled artillery to pound pro-Russian positions at Ozeryanivka, Zaitseve, Zheleznaya Balka, Shyroka Balka, Mihaylivka, Krasny Partizan, Sakhanka, Dzerzhinsky, Kominternove, Oktyabr, Leninske, Spartak, Vasiliivka, Yakovliivka, Kruta Balka, Zhabicheve, Yasinuvata, Verhnyotoretske, Staromykhailivka, Dokuchaievsk, Petrovsky district and Donetsk airport.[262][262] p;According to local authorities, the Ukrainian military broke the truce on seven occasions within the borders of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic. Kalynove, Novokievka, Zholobok, Lozove and Lohvynove became the target of small arms, automatic grenade launchers, 73 mm antitank recoilless rifles, 120 mm mortars, antitank guided missiles and armoured fighting vehicles.[263]
The press-centre of the ATO HQ reported in the evening that as of 6:00 pm pro-Russian troops had opened fire on Ukrainian troops on 16 occasions, one Ukrainian serviceman was killed, two others were wounded. Around Donetsk city and Horlivka, pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles opened fire on Ukrainian positions at Zaitseve, supported by antitank rockets, while Avdiivka became the target of small arms, heavy machine guns, grenade launchers and mortars. Ukrainian troops at Marinka and Krasnohorivka received heavy machine gun fire. In the region of Mariupol, heavy shelling was reported at Novotroitske, which was pounded by 120 mm mortars and 122 mm self-propelled artillery. Ukrainian forces there were also attacked by armoured fighting vehicles. Berezove and Chermalyk were shelled with rocket launchers and 82 mm mortars. Bohdanivka came under heavy machine gun fire. In the northern section of the demarcation line, 82 mm mortar volleys struck Ukrainian redoubts at Krymske.[264]

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 44 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 14 occasions in the outskirts of Donetsk city, on 24 occasions in the region of Mariupol, and on 6 occasions in Luhansk region[265]).[266][267][268] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence on issues related to ATO, Andriy Lysenko, reported at noon that one Ukrainian serviceman was killed and five others were wounded in the Donbass region on 30 May.[265] The fatality, that occurred to a sapper in a line of duty, was the first since 11 May.[265] Three civilians were injured by shelling in Avdiivka.[265][269] Pro-Russian officials at Donetsk city reported 65 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in 17 locations using small arms, grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured personnel carriers, armoured fighting vehicles, tanks and heavy artillery. The Ukrainian military targeted Zaitseve, Shyroka Balka, Sakhanka, Leninske, Oktyabr, Kruta Balka, Yakovliivka, Zhabicheve, Yasne, Mineralne, Staromyhailivka, Dokuchaievsk, Spartak, Petrovsky district and Donetsk airport.[270][271] Officials from the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic recorded three attacks by the Ukrainian military inside the republic's borders. Ukrainian forces used small arms, automatic grenade launchers, 73 mm antitank recoilless rifles, 120 mm mortars and armoured fighting vehicles to attack pro-Russian positions at Frunze, Novokievka and Sokolniki.[272]
According to the information provided by the ATO press-centre in the evening, as of 6:00 pm pro-Russian troops had opened fire on Ukrainian troops on 10 occasions, no casualties were reported. In the region of Mariupol, the Ukrainian garrison at Chermalyk became the target of antitank rockets and 82 mm mortar volleys. In the area of Donetsk city, rebel forces attacked the southern Ukrainian defenses around Avdiivka with small arms, snipers, heavy machine guns and rocket launchers. In the northern section of the demarcation line, 82 mm mortar barrages landed in Novotroitske, which also came under sniper fire. Small arms fire was reported at Donetz.[273]
